Furnace Replacement
How do you know when it is time to replace your furnace?
- Age: The first thing you need to do is find out the age of your unit. You can look at the original owner's manual that will sometimes be attached to the side of the unit or locate the model number and call the manufacturer for more information.
- Average Lifespan: Today's models typically run efficiently for 20 to 30 years. If your equipment is more than 15 years old it may not be a bad idea to start planning to replace your equipment.
- Other indications:
- If your equipment needs frequent repairs and/or the repairs are more than the value of your equipment.
- If your energy bill increases when your usage stays the same.
- If the rooms in your house are heating unevenly, with some rooms hotter or colder than others.
- If your equipment is cycling on and off more frequently than it had in the past.
- If your home has humidity problems.
- If your equipment becomes noisy or develops a rattle, buzzes, or hums.
- If your equipment starts putting out excessive dust, soot, or dirt particles.
